Knowledge that helps in everyday life

What remains when an income stops?

Rent or a mortgage, health insurance and ongoing commitments do not simply stop with illness or death. Care and unpaid household work also have financial value. Available support depends on factors including the cause, employment, pension arrangements and family circumstances.

A plan that gives those closest to you direction

You want your loved ones to know which resources exist and where to find support. An organised overview of the budget, benefits and beneficiaries provides a basis for that planning. You can see what is already in place and which gap you want to address.

We consider people, commitments and benefits together

Andrade Finance goes through illness, accident and death scenarios with you. We consider existing benefits and your actual expenses, then check unanswered questions against the documents. From there, we assess possible additions and explain their conditions clearly.

Start with your household budget

Consider illness and accidents separately

A longer income interruption can result from illness or an accident. Benefits vary by cause and insurance: continued salary, daily sickness benefits, accident insurance, IV and the pension fund may be relevant. Check conditions and coordination before adding benefits together.

Review the first months of absence and a longer restriction. Ask your employer about the duration and amount of continued salary and daily sickness benefits. Update this overview if you are self employed, work part time or change jobs.

Inability to work in your usual occupation is different from reduced earning capacity in the relevant labour market. IV applies its own eligibility conditions and prioritises rehabilitation before a pension. A medical certificate alone therefore does not mean an immediate or identical payment from every insurer.

Identify the financial gap in your household

Start with a realistic monthly budget: housing, health insurance, living costs, childcare, debts and other commitments. Include additional care or household help if a person who previously provided unpaid work becomes unavailable.

Compare needs with documented possible benefits and accessible reserves. Distinguish confirmed amounts from those needing clarification. Avoid planning around an estimated pension or a misunderstood death benefit.

Read your pension fund statement and regulations: disability pensions, survivors' pensions, children's pensions and death capital each need checking. Clarify your AHV/IV situation with the responsible authority. A statement is a starting point, but does not replace assessment of actual eligibility.

Include partners and dependants explicitly

An unmarried partnership does not automatically provide the same survivors' benefits as marriage. A pension fund can provide benefits for cohabiting partners in its regulations, subject to conditions. Living together for at least five years or responsibility for supporting shared children can be relevant.

Ask the pension fund whether notice or a beneficiary declaration is required during your lifetime. Include children, maintenance obligations and other dependants. Review details after separation, marriage or a new addition to the family.

Review private cover against your needs

Term life insurance can provide an agreed capital payment for death during the contract term. Income protection insurance can pay a pension for loss of earning capacity as defined in the contract. Death cover and income protection serve different purposes; review both against your identified needs.

Compare the amount, duration, benefit definition, waiting period and exclusions. Answer the health and application questions asked completely and truthfully. A quotation is not a promise of payment; acceptance and benefits depend on the contract and requirements. Keep the premium affordable over time and review beneficiary arrangements.

Your household protection checklist

Gather your budget, accessible reserves, pension fund statement and regulations, employer benefits, private policies and beneficiary declarations. For illness, accidents and death separately, record monthly costs and commitments requiring a single payment that could remain unfunded.

Then use the pension calculator as additional orientation. Discuss death and disability protection with Andrade Finance using your documents; a calculator overview does not confirm an insurance benefit.

Untied intermediaries must disclose compensation. See the initial information provided under Article 45 of the Swiss Insurance Supervision Act, VAG.

Clear answers to your questions

Are IV and my pension fund automatically enough?

Compare your needs and actual benefits. Eligibility, amounts and start dates can differ. Check your documents and confirmation from the responsible institutions.

Is my unmarried partner automatically a beneficiary?

Do not assume this. Review pension fund regulations and private policies, possible eligibility conditions and required declarations. Beneficiary arrangements must fit the pension arrangement and your family situation.

Does the calculator determine binding benefits?

No. It supports orientation in pension planning. Actual rights in the event of death or disability depend on the applicable rules, your contract and assessment of the specific case.
